If you do not naturally run these patterns and get the same results as the swish submodality shifts , you can either replace the subroutines with submodality shifts that give you the important to irrelevant and vice versa effect required by the swish application. Or you can "train" yourself to run the patterns of the submodality shifts and get the important to irrelevant transition effect required.
And when you can effectively run the sub patterns of the swish pattern , the issue is selection of the picture content. Most swish pattern descriptions deal with removing unwanted experiences and replacing them with something much better. Usually the content of the first is an associated experience , where you are embedded inside the picture seeing what you would see in the picture as if it were really happening , and its so real that you will automatically experience the unwanted experience. Now you might already be thinking that being associated into a picture and seeing and experiencing as if its real is in fact another sub routine pattern of neurology ... you are correct in your thinking. Same with the disassociated picture experience , it is a sub pattern (of neurology) of the overall swish pattern. And you will need to also be able to either run these picture sub patterns as required , or find equivalents that work for the person doing the swish. Also the interview process of selecting the picture content and defining both what is wanted and what is not wanted is itself a pattern of neurology , from the meta model of NLP. So to actually be able to run a swish pattern on spec as described by NLP you will need to have the ability to run all of the sub patterns , and create the types of picture content patterns to give the raw ingredients for a swish pattern. Once you are ready the swish pattern progresses easily , and the test of did you do it correctly is , the resultant experience. And if you don't get the desired result , check the result , what did you get? And make adjustments to the sub patterns that you are running. Remembering that the defined outcome of a swish pattern is to transform something that is important to irrelevant and at the same time replace it with something that used to be irrelevant but is made important through the swish. So does that remove the mysterious POWER of the NLP swish? For me it increases the power of being able to define complex simultaneous elements in ways that allow them to be manipulated in easy ways. And the results of NLP applications can be "replicated" in other people when they run the same patterns or run patterns that produce similar results. Reading is a pattern of neurology , so is typing (even the two or three finger variety). Put NLP into a category of something that makes learning other things easier. And test teaching others in structured and systematic ways. And that has been proven effective , regardless of whatever you call the system of codification used.
